Her Royal Highness Princess Eeuphelma Choden Wangchuck, accompanied by Dasho Thinlay Norbu, graced Bhutan’s 7th Paralympic Festival 2026 on 15th April 2026 at Gesarling Central School, Dagana.
Her Royal Highness’s presence marked a significant moment for inclusive sports in Bhutan, reaffirming Her Royal Highness’s unwavering support for the empowerment of persons with disabilities.
The festival stood as a landmark event, reflecting Bhutan’s growing commitment to inclusivity while celebrating the strength, resilience, and achievements of para athletes across the nation.
With over 1,000 participants, students, educators, community members, local government officials, and key stakeholders, the festival served as a vibrant platform to promote awareness and participation in para sports. The atmosphere was filled with energy, unity, and a shared vision of celebrating ability beyond limitations.
A key highlight of the event was the felicitation of two outstanding Bhutanese para athletes who brought immense pride to the nation: Mr. Cheyang Kuenchap, bronze medalist at the Asian Youth Para Games 2025 in Dubai, and Ms. Chimi Dema, bronze medalist at the World Para Athletics Grand Prix 2026 in New Delhi. In a moment of great honor, Her Royal Highness personally presented awards to these athletes, recognizing their exceptional accomplishments and embodying the true spirit of “We See Ability.”
The festival offered an engaging and immersive experience through a wide range of para sports activities, including blind football, kids’ athletics, boccia, wheelchair basketball, para badminton, para shooting, and para archery. These activities provided participants with firsthand exposure to adaptive sports, fostering empathy, understanding, and inclusion.
An inspirational session featuring elite Bhutanese para athletes further enriched the event, as athletes shared their personal journeys of perseverance, resilience, and triumph—motivating young minds and communities alike. The festival also brought together representatives from the Bhutan Olympic Committee, the Ministry of Education and Skills Development, Bhutan Insurance Limited, national sports federations, and local leaders from the Dzongkhag administration, as well as representatives from the school and nearby community, reinforcing a collective commitment to building a more inclusive sporting culture in Bhutan.
The successful conclusion of the 7th Paralympic Festival 2026 left a lasting legacy by strengthening awareness of para sports, encouraging inclusive participation, and promoting the values of equality, respect, and opportunity for all. Rooted in the belief that ability should always be recognized above limitation, the festival stood as a powerful reminder that sport has the power to unite empower and transform lives.
The event was also attended by Lyonpo Yeezang Dee Thapa, Minister of Education and Skills Development, along with other senior officials from the Ministry of Education and Skills Development.
Through the message “We See Ability,” the Bhutan Paralympic Committee continues to lead the way in shaping a more inclusive and compassionate society, one where every individual is seen, valued, and given the opportunity to shine.
