Cheyang Kenchap Heads to Lucknow for a Training Camp Ahead of the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Para Games

Bhutanese para badminton athlete Cheyang Kenchap will travel to Lucknow, India on 18th August, 2026 for a two-week training camp, scheduled from  18th August to 1st September 2026. The training camp marks another important step in his preparation for the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Para Games, where he is set to make his debut appearance at the Asian Para Games.

For Cheyang, the road to the Asian Para Games has been built through consistent training, international exposure, and a steady rise in competitive experience. This camp adds to that foundation, giving him time to train in a high-performance environment ahead of Asian Para Games.

Although the 2026 Asian Para Games will be Cheyang’s first appearance at the event, he is no stranger to competing beyond Bhutan’s borders.

Last year, he represented Bhutan at the Asian Youth Para Games in Dubai, delivering a standout performance that earned him a bronze medal. The result was a significant milestone in his career, reflecting both his talent and his growing maturity as a competitor.

He went on to compete at the Japan Para Badminton International, facing experienced international players and gaining further insight into the pace, strategy, and mental demands of top-level competition.

Each of these experiences has helped shape Cheyang into a more well-rounded athlete — one who understands not just the technical side of the game, but also what it takes to perform under pressure on the international stage.

The training camp in Lucknow is designed to sharpen both the technical and competitive edges of Cheyang’s game. Training within a competitive environment will allow him to refine his court positioning, wheelchair mobility, and match tactics, while also strengthening his physical conditioning and mental resilience.

Beyond the technical work, camps like this carry another kind of value — exposure. Spending two weeks training alongside strong players in a new environment can help an athlete grow more comfortable with the intensity and unpredictability of international competition, something that becomes especially important as the Asian Para Games approaches.

The camp will also give Cheyang the chance to identify specific areas of his game that need further development, while continuing to build on the strengths that have carried him this far.

The Bhutan Paralympic Committee extends its heartfelt gratitude to the Government of India for the generous financial support that has made this training camp possible. This assistance reflects the enduring friendship between our two countries and India’s continued commitment to the development of para-sport in Bhutan. Opportunities like this one are vital to the growth of our athletes, and we deeply appreciate India’s role in helping Cheyang prepare for the Asian Para Games.

This camp is one of several training opportunities Cheyang will undertake as he continues preparing for the Asian Para Games 2026. His preparation reflects a broader philosophy in para-sport development — that success on the international stage is rarely built through a single tournament or camp, but through sustained training, repeated exposure, and continuous learning.

The bronze medal in Dubai and his experience in Japan have already laid important groundwork. The Lucknow camp adds another layer to that preparation, bringing him one step closer to his Asian Para Games debut.

As Cheyang continues this journey, he carries with him not only his personal goals but also the pride and responsibility of representing Bhutan on the international stage.

As he departs for Lucknow, we wish Cheyang Kenchap a safe journey, productive training, and a successful camp. May this experience bring him valuable exposure, sharper preparation, and the confidence he needs as he continues his path toward the Asian Para Games 2026.
