A Story of Unbreakable Love and Quiet Triumph.
A Sister’s Promise
In the quiet folds of Bhutan’s hills, two sisters—Kinley Dema and Dawa Lhamo—grew up chasing butterflies and dreams, their laughter echoing through the valleys. Dawa, the elder, was Kinley’s protector, her guiding star. But as adolescence approached, Kinley’s steps began to falter. By seventeen, she could no longer stand, her legs succumbing to an unexplained weakness.
The world around them shifted. Where once there was warmth, now there were whispers and pitying glances. Opportunities vanished, and Kinley felt herself fading into the shadows. Yet, Dawa’s love remained steadfast, a beacon in the encroaching darkness.
Determined to rekindle her sister’s spirit, Dawa introduced Kinley to para shooting—a sport where strength lies not in limbs but in focus and resolve. Their modest room transformed into a makeshift training ground, with books as targets and plastic bottles lining the balcony. Kinley’s hands trembled as she held the rifle for the first time, but Dawa’s unwavering belief steadied her.
Through relentless practice and shared tears, Kinley honed her skill. Her debut at the shooting federation was met with skepticism, but she silenced doubts with a perfect shot. Cheers erupted, and in that moment, Kinley reclaimed her narrative.

Her journey led her to six international tournaments, including the Olympics and the Asian Para Games. In 2024, she narrowly missed a bronze medal at the World Cup, but her spirit remained unbroken. Now, as she trains for the 2025 qualification match for the 2026 Asian Para Games, her dream burns brighter than ever.
When asked about her deepest wish, Kinley’s answer was simple: to have a home—a place where she and Dawa could find peace and belonging.
Their story is a testament to the power of unwavering love and resilience. Kinley and Dawa’s bond transcends adversity, illuminating the path for others to follow.
