Bhutan Paralympic Committee Celebrates Chimi Dema’s Silver Medal Achievement and Corporate Support

On March 26, 2025, the Bhutan Paralympic Committee (BPC), in collaboration with Bhutan Insurance Ltd (BIL), honored Ms. Chimi Dema and her coach, Mr. Lhaba Tshering, for their remarkable achievement at the 2025 New Delhi World Para Athletics Grand Prix. The felicitation ceremony, held at the Bhutan Olympic Committee Hall, celebrated Ms. Dema’s silver medal win in the Women’s F40 shot put category, marking a significant milestone for Bhutan in international para sports.

Ms. Dema, standing at 124 cm, delivered an impressive throw of 5.46 meters, earning her 361 points and securing the silver medal among competitors from 20 countries. This achievement adds to her previous international success, including a silver medal at the 5th Indian Open Para Athletics International Championship in Bengaluru, where she achieved her personal best throw of 5.71 meters.

In recognition of her outstanding performance, BIL awarded Ms. Dema a cash incentive and a complimentary sports insurance coverage worth USD 10,000. Her coach, Mr. Tshering, was also honored for his unwavering support and dedication.

The event was graced by Sonam Tobgay, Director of Operations and IT, and Yeshey Lotay, General Manager of BIL, along with senior officials from BPC and the Bhutan Olympic Committee (BOC). Sonam Karma Tshering, Secretary General of BOC, expressed deep appreciation for BIL’s commitment to supporting athletes, acknowledging their contribution as an inspiration for the sporting community.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Tobgay emphasized BIL’s dedication to empowering athletes:
